Iron ore magnate Andrew Forrest has thrown down the gauntlet to business leaders and philanthropists around the world after making the single biggest donation to help firefighters and devastated communities.

Mr Forrest wants to create a $500 million fund to prevent a crisis of such magnitude from happening again.
