What will Trump mean for personal wealth?

Pension funds, retail investors and money managers are worrying about the future of American capital markets under the US President’s erratic economic management.

For the past 50 years or so, most Americans’ approach to retirement has been to put as much money as possible into US markets and then forget about it until they’re in their 60s.

And for those who could do so, this has worked out very well. If you’d invested $US1000 in an S&P 500 Index fund in 1980, it would be worth almost $US165,000 ($262,780) today.
