YouTube exemption exposes teen social media ban as a sham

The government’s preferential treatment of Google-owned YouTube undermines the purpose of its under-16s social media ban, and is unfair to the other tech industry players.

We are well into the federal election campaign and have barely heard a whisper from either side of politics about the world-first teen social media ban that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Communications Minister Michelle Rowland announced with significant fanfare last November.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that was the point.
