‘Unicorn’ tech firm spent $43m to buy its founder’s other company

Australian human resources software unicorn Employment Hero paid $43.4 million to acquire a professional services company owned by its co-founder Ben Thompson earlier this year, a new regulatory filing has revealed.

Annual accounts filed with the corporate regulator show Employment Innovations, a professional services firm owned by Mr Thompson, and acquired by Employment Hero in April, lost almost $1 million after tax in the past financial year.
