A group of about 100 sports stars including Matildas striker Sam Kerr and Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins are new investors in a venture capital firm, co-founded by an AFL player and a top basketballer, and also backed by Tesla’s Robyn Denholm and Square Peg’s Paul Bassat.
Athletic Ventures was co-founded by AFL player Matt de Boer and basketballer Matthew Dellavedova five years ago as a syndicate. Its first formal fund has closed with $25 million to invest in start-ups, with founders that remind the pair of elite sportspeople.
