Social media penalties ‘must include big fines’
Social media companies could be fined millions of dollars if they fail to stop underage users accessing their services, under legislation that will set a national minimum age for accessing apps such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said under the legislation, which will be introduced before the end of the year, social media companies would bear the responsibility to enforce the rules or face large penalties.
