Robot surgeon start-up scores $5m deal from US investors

An orthopaedic doctor turned technology entrepreneur hopes his former colleagues will swap their scalpels for a robot he has developed that can perform common knee and shoulder surgeries, after his start-up banked $5 million from US investors.

Brisbane-based Convergence Medical has designed and built a robot called V01, which it said was suitable for all arthroscopy procedures – minimally invasive keyhole joint surgery for injured wrists, elbows, shoulders, spines, hips, knees and ankles.
