Media companies are preparing to strike their first commercial agreements with Chinese internet giant ByteDance, bolstered by the government’s plan to introduce a TikTok tax if the tech company does not successfully negotiate with them.
News publishers including Nine Entertainment and News Corp Australia have successfully campaigned to have TikTok-owner ByteDance included in the government’s revised media bargaining rules.
