The last ByteDance executive on the Australian board of TikTok has resigned, as the viral video platform continues to distance itself from its Chinese parent company and as Canberra weighs up a larger policy response to tackle security concerns on social media.

Documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission show ByteDance’s Tian Zhao resigned from TikTok’s local board in mid-July. In March, The Australian Financial Review revealed that senior ByteDance executive Zhao Liu had left the local TikTok board.
