For everyone present, it was an excruciating scene. An employee at Nvidia, the microchip designer, was being screamed at by the company’s chief executive Jensen Huang in front of roughly 150 colleagues. Jensen was, one person present recalled, “just nonstop berating him for a good hour and a half. Honestly, maybe it was two hours.”
The employee, an “extraordinarily skilled and dedicated chip architect”, had just experienced what Nvidia staff called “the wrath of Huang”. The mild-mannered looking boss, known in public for his signature style of a leather jacket and square-framed glasses, is prone to explosive outbursts at work. The telling-off in front of others was not accidental either. “He wants everyone to benefit,” as the company’s former chief scientist put it. “He would never just yell at some guy in the hall.”
