Australia was targeted by a China-based large scale, but often unsophisticated and irrelevant, covert influence operation spread across 50 social media platforms and forums.

Facebook owner Meta said the so-called spamouflage operation has run separate clusters of spam activity which it and other platforms have been taking down since 2019.
