Google’s chief executive, Sundar Pichai, said it was “completely unacceptable” that his company’s AI tool inserted unprompted diversity into requests for historical images.

Users querying Google’s new AI image generator, Gemini, were greeted with these depictions of strange and ahistorical diversity in February in response to prompts they expected to generate more realistic results.
