The closed-door meetings are stepping up at corporate law firm Gilbert + Tobin, as its partners get ready to work out how and when to elect a new leader.

While no one is trying to push managing partner Danny Gilbert out the door, the famed Sydney lawyer who co-founded the firm in 1988 cannot run it forever. He will be 72 in January.
