Gerry Harvey might be Australia’s best-known billionaire. Most punters would recognise him as the man with the raspy voice behind retail giant Harvey Norman. But even after 40 years in the spotlight, there’s one aspect of public life he still can’t stand.

“From my point of view, I never talked to anyone about my assets. If you said to me, do I want to be on that Rich List? No. Bloody. Way. It just causes you more grief than anything else, and then you also become a target.”
