Australian government housing policy has for years grappled with the dual mandate of keeping house prices high and affordable.
The only “solution” that doesn’t upset anybody is to somehow boost the buying power of those otherwise unable to compete. True, such schemes have rarely worked and tend to just enrich the sellers of the increasingly scarce commodity that is housing.
