Federal cabinet is expected to determine the length of Greg Medcraft's second term as the chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission when it assembles next week.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims got a three-year extension. An extension significantly shorter than that – say for 18 months – wouldn't exactly be a great endorsement of the "tough cop on the beat". It would look more like sacking on the other side of the federal election.
