The election campaign formally started on Friday, but as the budget was handed down last Tuesday, Parliament House was emptier than usual.

Hundreds of staffers from each major political party were already ensconced in the Labor and Liberal campaign headquarters in Sydney. And as voters across the nation weigh up whose cost-of-living relief package they prefer, for staffers-turned-campaigners, the election goodies are baked in.
