News Corp has long prized loyalty. Under Rupert Murdoch, and now under his son Lachlan Murdoch, the family company has seen a parade of young reporters become editors and then executives, growing old within the walls of Sydney’s Holt Street.

When you’re under constant assault, having the fealty and fidelity of those in the trenches is paramount. But slowly it comes time for everyone to sign off. After Lachlan’s visit mid-year, several senior reporters walked the plank. National news executive Peter Blunden moved into a part-time role.
