Liberal Senator Andrew Braggestablished the Tony Shepherd Oration in 2019 to encourage Australia’s business leaders to “enter the arena of policy formation”.
It’s a perversion of the established hierarchy of ingratiation for a politician to immortalise a businessman – everyone knows it’s supposed to be the other way around. But, of course, Bragg entered the Senate by way of the Business Council of Australia, of which Shepherd was previously president.
