In our regular column on design features that can create your dream home we speak to AJC Architects chairman and design lead Michael Heenan about how he split an apartment building in Sydney’s coastal Coogee into two halves to allow sunlight from the north into rooms of the south-sloping development. We also speak owner Randwick councillor Carolyn Martin.

What is it and where?
Michael Heenan: In this apartment on a south-facing slope on the northern end of Coogee Beach, different from other apartments in the area, there are windows on all four sides of the living room and all four sides of the sleeping room block. It solves a common Sydney problem.
