Inner-city vacancies rise as renters hit the 'burbs and beyond

Renters and home buyers are shifting away from the inner city to favour suburbs and regional areas within commuting distance, according to analysis by housing market platform Suburbtrends.

A count of rental homes that have been listed for 21 days or longer shows inner-city regions face significant increases in vacancy rates while the opposite happens in commutable regions. Analysis of sales stock points to a similar shift for buyers.
