House prices are falling for the first time in nearly two years

Residential property prices fell across the country in December, bringing a near two-year run that defied higher interest rates to an end.

The 0.1 per cent decline in the month was powered by a significantly larger slump in Sydney and Melbourne, according to new data published by analytics firm CoreLogic. The falls pushed median price in the Victorian capital to under $775,000, an annual decline of three per cent.
