The federal government will shortly announce new measures to crack down on illegal foreign investment in housing, likely to include a fee of several thousand dollars for all applications and a national register of land title transfers that would be shared with the Department of Immigration.
Treasurer Joe Hockey said the government would make an announcement in the next few days, hinting the focus would be on greater enforcement of the existing rules.
