Importing a starchitect such as Frank Gehry to get a signature building won't cut it in the 21st century, says Kengo Kuma.

Kuma should know. The 65-year-old architect has lived that experience in his native Japan, having been selected to design a more modest stadium for next year's Tokyo 2020 Olympics after the original spaceship-like design of the British-based Zaha Hadid became too controversial.
