Labor's Kim Carr promises building industry reform, says NSW 'indolent' over Opal
Debate over Sydney's troubled Opal Tower has entered the national political fray, with senior Opposition figure Kim Carr saying a new federal Labor government will implement much-needed building industry reforms within two years to prevent recurrence of problems at the high-rise apartment tower.
In particular, a Labor government would follow a recommendation of last year's key Building Confidence report by Peter Shergold and Bronwyn Weir saying builders, project managers, building surveyors, building inspectors, architects, engineers, draftsmen, plumbers and fire-safety practitioners should all be subject to a national registration scheme, Senator Carr said.
