Victoria to kickstart commercial build-to-rent
Unlike previous deals, the government is looking to hang on to the land, awarding it under a so-called ground lease approach that would see a consortium build and operate housing and facilities.
Plenary Group, Qualitas and Capella Capital are competing in a Victorian housing tender worth up to an estimated $400 million that would allow commercial build-to-rent housing to be built alongside state-owned social housing on public land.
The three are part of consortia that have submitted preliminary bids to redevelop housing on three existing public housing estates in Flemington, Prahran and Brighton.
