WA to retire coal power stations by 2029

The West Australian government has called time on its coal-fired power stations, unveiling plans to retire the Muja and Collie stations by 2029 and invest $3.8 billion in new green power infrastructure.

In a major energy policy update, Premier Mark McGowan also ruled out any new natural gas-fired power stations on the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) – the state’s main electricity network – after 2030.
