Queensland wipeout good for Labor’s federal election chances
The LNP small target strategy is politically effective. It’s on track to take out an unpopular Labor premier and, in the process, give a Labor prime minister a better chance of keeping his job.
Today’s The Australian Financial Review/Freshwater Strategy poll suggests Queensland Premier Steven Miles needs a miracle to retain government at the state election on October 26.
After three straight election victories in Queensland under former premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, the Labor Party trails a resurgent Liberal National Party by a 12-point two-party preferred margin of 44 per cent to 56 per cent. Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has an eight-point lead over Mr Miles as preferred premier.
