Why BlueScope is optimistic about Trump tariffs

The financial results for Australia’s biggest steel maker show the mixed fortunes of businesses coping with the confusion of Donald Trump’s planned tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

Thanks to Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on steel and aluminium, BlueScope chief executive Mark Vassella suddenly finds himself right in the middle of feverish Australian-US political diplomacy.

But in contrast to the Albanese government’s desperate effort to obtain an exemption from the White House’s 25 per cent tariffs, Vassella sounds remarkably optimistic about their effect on BlueScope’s bottom line and its immediate future.
