Bruce Lehrmann raped Brittany Higgins in Parliament House because he was so “hell-bent” on having sex with her that he “did not care” whether she agreed to it or not, according to a Federal Court judgment that shed light on modern understandings of consent.
Justice Michael Lee handed down his bombshell judgment in former political staffer Mr Lehrmann’s defamation trial on Monday, finding that he raped his then-colleague in 2019, despite denying for years that any sex had occurred.
