Govt has helped pay for more than 100k flights to one FIFO town in WA
A WA government airfare scheme designed to help outback and regional West Australians meet the high costs of travelling around the vast state has quadrupled from its original cost, and data shows mining towns are by far the most subsidised destinations.
Originally forecast to cost $19 million over three years, the Australian-first scheme is now expected to exceed $84 million, raising concern over whether the program is being misused.
