Cash donations over $100 to political parties will be banned by the NSW Coalition government, giving one of the most-corrupt political systems some of the toughest contribution rules in Australia.
The decision, which will be officially announced on Wednesday and which must be approved by Parliament, appeared to be designed to distract attention from the loss of a minister to a corruption inquiry and budding backbench revolt against Liberal Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
