The federal government is attracting lost talent back to Canberra, appointing former Melbourne Council CEO and Victorian housing chief Ben Rimmer to a key role with the Education Department.

The Rhodes scholar and former Melbourne Symphony Orchestra violinist has been appointed a deputy secretary, as the Albanese government undertakes a major review of higher education with the aim of developing a new accord for the troubled sector.
