Teal independents are preparing to push Labor for tougher action to end federal politics’ jobs for mates culture, by creating a new commissioner for merit-based appointments and mandatory selection panels.

Mackellar MP Sophie Scamps will table a private member’s bill on Monday designed to introduce safeguards to public appointments, such as the new National Anti-Corruption Commission boss and future government boards and tribunal members.
