Teal independent Nicolette Boele claimed the Sydney seat of Bradfield on Wednesday after a full official recount brought her from eight votes behind to 26 votes in front in one of the closest results in election history.
But Liberal candidate Gisele Kapterian did not concede defeat after the Australian Electoral Commission announced its final result, leaving open the possibility she would take it to the Court of Disputed Returns and potentially seek a new election.
