States to be forced to give up secret road crash data

Expectations are growing that the Albanese government will force states and territories to relinquish secret road accident data in a major transparency push aimed at stymying road pork-barrelling after Labor won support from crossbench Senator David Pocock for controversial workplace laws.
In what would be a major coup for road-safety campaigners, it is understood Transport Minister Catherine King will negotiate with her counterparts to make provision of detailed crash data a condition on $50 billion in Commonwealth road funding.
