Somehow the grand ambitions of Wayne Swan’s 2008 budget, the first Labor budget after years in the political wilderness, seemed to haunt Jim Chalmers on Tuesday night.
There are probably only so many forms of words a treasurer can use in a budget.
But if you are a big enough budget nerd to go looking at Wayne Swan’s first budget speech in 2008, the similarities in the messages between 2008 and the speech delivered by Swan’s long-time staffer and now Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, might strike you as a little spooky.
