Just before question time on Monday, in the combined space of three minutes, two rookie Labor backbenchers took it upon themselves to inject moral clarity into current events.

One was West Australian Tania Lawrence who, unlike almost everyone else in the building that day, decided not to stick to the talking points regarding Barnaby Joyce.
