PM pledges to raise the plight of jailed Australian – again
Anthony Albanese has assured the family of jailed pro-democracy writer Yang Hengjun that he will raise his case when he meets Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday, just as he did when he met the Chinese president in Bali a year ago.
As the opposition supported the views of Dr Yang’s family that the Australia-China relationship could not be fully stabilised while he remained in prison, the prime minister said he had also raised the issue when he met Chinese Premier Li Qiang, also in Indonesia, at the ASEAN summit in September.
