PM’s China visit ‘matter of life and death’ for jailed writer

The family of jailed pro-democracy writer Yang Hengjun has implored Anthony Albanese to help secure his release when the prime minister makes his historic visit to China on Saturday, saying it is a matter of life and death.

As Mr Albanese confirmed he would raise “tough” issues such as the South China Sea and human rights, Dr Yang’s family released an open letter in which they expressed serious concerns for the writer’s health.
