Tax cut bill passes first hurdle, despite Coalition vote against

The Albanese government has legislated its budget tax cuts in a bid to force Peter Dutton to go to the election promising to rescind them.

Legislation for the $17.1 billion income tax cut – equivalent to about $10 a week when fully implemented – passed the House of Representatives with the support of the Greens and independents on Wednesday morning. The Coalition voted against the bill.
