NT wipeout should spark real ‘closing the gap’ discussion
Ideally, the prominent role Indigenous policy will play in two critical NT federal seats would prompt much-needed discussion of Noel Pearson’s responsibility agenda.
The uniqueness of Australia’s Top End means we should be cautious about reading too much into the federal implications of the Northern Territory election result. But with most published polls suggesting that Federal Labor is headed toward minority government at the next election, every single seat is now vital.
Hence the burning question is what the weekend’s wipeout of the NT Labor government may mean for Labor’s hold on the Territory’s two federal seats.
