New policing deal to keep China out of the Pacific

Australia will help Solomon Islands more than double the size of its police force to 3000 officers following high-level leaders’ talks, as Canberra tries to marginalise China’s role in regional security.
Striking a more conciliatory tone than his predecessor Manasseh Sogavare, Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele said a controversial security pact with Beijing was purely domestic focused.
