Former prime minister John Howard has urged the Liberals and Nationals to reconcile quickly, warning that the longer they stay split, the further they will grow apart and the harder it will be to reconcile.
But Liberal leader Sussan Ley, although disappointed at the Nationals’ decision to abandon the Coalition, effectively accused the junior party of acting impetuously and warned the split could last three years.
