Narrabri decision increases Labor's energy tensions

The decision to grant conditional approval to the Narrabri coal seam gas field has contributed to unease within federal Labor as it grapples with which direction to lean on energy policy.
A week after shadow climate change and energy minister Mark Butler said gas and coal had little role in the nation's energy future, his caucus sparring partner and shadow resources minister Joel Fitzgibbon heralded the Narrabri decision.
