Mr Rudd goes to Washington, and not everyone will be pleased

Anthony Albanese says the choice of Kevin Rudd as ambassador to the US is ‘an outstanding appointment’. Some of Rudd’s former Labor colleagues are not so sure.

He’s baaaack. Not that Kevin Rudd would concede he ever vacated a permanent and prominent position in Australian public life despite living in the US for much of the past decade.

But his appointment as US ambassador ensures a major and no doubt extremely vocal part in Australia’s relationship with its key ally and its foreign policy more generally.
