Report boosts case for Medicare overhaul, shift beyond GPs
A Productivity Commission report has bolstered the case for overhauling Medicare to allow allied health professionals such as pharmacists, physiotherapists and nurses to take on tasks traditionally done by doctors.
The release of the commission’s annual Report on Government Services comes on the eve of a crucial national cabinet meeting on Friday, where premiers will plead for an increase in hospital funding from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
