Why middle Australia is leaning towards ‘No’

Debate about the details, partisan bickering and indifference about Indigenous affairs are all continuing to hamper the Yes case.

In an alternate political reality, Bianca Kemp is just the kind of person Voice to parliament advocates might expect to be voting Yes. A Queensland mum, with three Indigenous stepchildren, the 39-year-old wants the government to stop wasting her money and do its day job better.

But a week out from the landmark referendum on constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, Kemp is part of a growing group of outspoken No voters, angry at the Voice proposal and eager to see it rejected.
