Minister urges public to guard against ‘complacency’ over terrorism
Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has flagged a shake-up of powers to keep the public safe from hardcore terrorists when they finish their sentences, with more than 80 extremists either in jail or before the courts.
In a speech on Monday marking the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Ms Andrews will also indicate a revamp of de-radicalisation programs is in the works, with the emerging right-wing extremist risk posed by young white males a new focus.
