Meta reversal on political news boosts case for payments

Meta is facing fresh calls to reopen negotiations over payments to media outlets after company founder Mark Zuckerberg announced more political content would be displayed in users’ Facebook feeds as a part of a free speech overhaul.

The concession over political content comes despite Meta’s refusal to renew deals with Australian publishers and broadcasters under the news media bargaining code, arguing that people do not use Facebook for news.
